Development Project

This year the committee undertook a large scale, long term project to update and improve our equipment and infrastructure.  Barton Players has successfully managed to acquire a large amount of equipment over the years, but as time has passed, some of it has become old and needs replacing.  We have also got to look at a long term solution for the structure of the gantry for our lights, and a replacement stage extension.  With all of the items that we would like to get and all of this work, we are looking at purchases of around £30, 000.

On this page, we hope to keep you updated on the project, and provide news and information as we go along.

November 2011

We are about to install our new side bars at the Village Hall which will give us greater flexibility in terms of lighting different areas of the venue.

July 2011

We have now installed a loft ladder, and a lighting bar in the loft.  This means that we can store the lantern stock we have in the correct fashion.  The loft ladder will give ease of access that has not previously been needed.  We have also updated our lighting stock and sold much of the surplus and out of date equipment.  Our lighting desk is sadly no longer functional, and we are investigating the acquisition of a new one.

March 2011

We have now installed permanent safety bonds on all the lighting bars in the main auditorium at the Village Hall.  This will negate the need for further hire charges, and will save a lot of time during get-ins.

Ann has been working on a wardrobe logging exercise and has catalogued thousands of items already.  This is an ongoing project, and will help her to relocate the wardrobe stock back into the loft.

We are currently looking at loft ladders, and racking systems for the loft.

8th February 2011

We held a finance meeting last night and were lucky to have some representatives from the Barton Scouts and Guides to advise us with regard to grant applications.  We now work towards raising the money for the development work we have in mind.  One of the avenues we will need to investigate is charity status for the group.

17th October 2010.

We spent time at the Village Hall removing the old Batten Lights that were suspended in the gantry, and re-organising and tidying the remaining scaffolding and wiring.

We also audited our stock of flats, with both our forthcoming productions in mind and our ongoing project.
